Socializing, Dancing, Etiquette, Fun!

The Greenwood Junior Cotillion is a six-month program designed to teach dance and social skills to students in 5th through 9th grades.  The season begins in September of each year, and ends with the final ball in February.

In addition to learning social etiquette, manners, and dance skills, GJC students will gain a much increased self-confidence and strong character that will carry through all aspects of adulthood.

Sessions are conducted in a safe learning environment and will provide opportunities to practice and enjoy these skills with friends and classmates at memorable events with a blend of dance instruction, refreshments, decorations, and fun.

Annually, we host the Holiday Ball and the King and Queen of Hearts Ball in which the students will be able to show off their new skills to parents and onlookers.

Dance Instructor

Marcus Coker has been dancing since 1999.

When a group of friends invited him to a swing dance class, he began teaching two years later, and opened his own studio, Momentum Dance Concepts, in 2005. It is his desire to convey his passion for Lindy Hop, ballroom, and all types of social dancing to his students while teaching solid technique, strong basics, and unique patterns.

While Marcus is known to teach throughout the local community and choreograph routines for many organizations, his strongest attention is on those who take lessons on a weekly basis.

His personal belief is that dance offers much more to people than steps and patterns; he believes it is a way to enhance confidence, relationships, personal health and self-expression.

In 2009, Marcus and his friends started Southern Fried Swing, the area's first annual Lindy Hop convention, as a way to give back to the community and grow the Lindy Hop scene. At last year's event, Marcus and Janie performed Charleston with the Chick-Fil-A cow.
